Nearly half of all adults in the US will experience at least one case of a significant back, neck, arm or joint pain. Over 50 million people in the US are currently experiencing some degree of arthritis. As the population ages and become more sedentary and overweight the likelihood of back and join pain/injury increases. Many of the pains are also caused by arthritis, lifting or moving heavy objects, sporting activities, and other activities that our bodies are not accustomed to doing. Every movement of your body can result in severe pain, especially in the lower back, neck, legs, arms and hands. There are many medications on the market to help in the temporary relief of the pain and there are also moist heat pads for the relief of the muscle pain and swelling from every day activities and relief of the joint pain from arthritis. Support Hose Store is pleased to announce the addition of the Thermophore® Moist Heat Pack product line to the products available for you. The Thermophore pulls water from the air and when the Thermophore® is turned on, the rapid heat rise forces the moisture out of the cover and onto the user’s skin.

Here is how moist heat therapy can assist you: Moist heat helps loosen the muscle tightness and reduces the stiffness and muscle spasms. For the person with arthritis, the moist heat dilates the blood vessels in the effected area which results in increasing the blood flow and assists in the healing of the internal tissues and reduces muscle spasms. In addition, the moist heating pad will reduce the sensation of pain. Many Physicians recommend alternating heat and cold treatments. You may have to experiment to find out which treatment works best for you. You can find the correct combination which will give you the most pain relief in managing your arthritis. The moist heat does not dry out the skin, but penetrates more deeply for better pain relief. Please note that heat therapy is not recommended if you have an open wound, diabetic, swollen or bruised muscles, dermatitis, DVT (deep vein thrombosis or blood clots), peripheral vascular disease. If you have skin damage do not use heat or cold therapy. If you or the person you are trying to assist cannot sense heat or have other cognitive impairments, then the heat pad should not be used.

The Thermophore moist heating pad temperature can be regulated to a temperature that is comfortable to you. You do not want a temperature so hot that it will burn your skin. You must also give the heat time to work for you. Generally 10-20 minutes should be sufficient to relieve the pain and you can use the moist heat as many times per day as is comfortable to you.
